To say that Pico de Loro surpassed my expectations would be a vast understatement.

Here are the many reasons why:

Upon entering the resort grounds, you are greeted with this spectacular view, notwithstanding the overcast skies and sporadic rains.

The warm welcome that awaits guests upon entering the Pico Sands Hotel, apart from the fresh spray of flowers in tall glass vases, are refreshing cold towels for the travel weary (it takes about 3 hours to get to Pico from Makati) and glasses of cold calamansi juice.

Each guest is given a cool, waterproof Pico de Loro wristband that the resort requires guests to use at all times.  It’s not uncomfortable at all and is a cool branding tool.

The hotel staff is extremely kind and flexible.  For instance, they allowed our group to use part of the dining area for our team building activities as we didn’t require a large area. They quickly set us up with chairs and a table for the projector.  And when I accidentally knocked a glass over and spilled water on the table, a staff member was quick to spot this from the outside through the glass windows.  He quickly wiped up the mess, I was quite surprised that he had been observing this from afar.  And all the other resort staff from the buggy drivers to the different employees always acknowledged us with a friendly greeting and a smile.  It seemed like they were very happy to be there and this kind of attitude is just infectious.

At buffet breakfast the following morning, I asked the waiter if it was possible to make me a mushroom omelet since there were scrambled eggs available, but were too wet for my liking.  He said he would check with the kitchen and was back really quickly, smiling that he got the kitchen’s go signal.  It was such a nice surprise to be told that they would accommodate my request, and the presentation was also a nice touch.

So the weather that threatened to ruin our stay, really only added drama to a an extremely delightful service experience.  Definitely one worth several repeat visits!

A very well deserved 5 silver stars goes to Pico de Loro.
